New Delhi: The BCCI is batting on the backfoot. After taking on players, and selectors, now the war is with the stars. And even if amendments are being made, Shah Rukh Khan says he is hurt that he was accused of watching matches only for the publicity of his films.
"The BCCI’s stand is the same. Shah Rukh is always welcome in all functions of the BCCI. We have always invited him and will continue to do so,” President of Rajasthan Cricket Association Lalit Modi said to makeup for all that has been said against the actor.
As president of the host state association, Modi was Shah Rukh Khan's escort on a high profile visit to Jaipur for the final one-dayer where the actor promoted his movie while giving an interview to commentator Rameez Raja.
“Miss out on one of the days of the Test match and go and watch Om Shanti Om,” Shah Rukh had told Raja at the Jaipur one-dayer.
So, has Shah Rukh been using one of the country's most high-profile platforms to promote his film? Some bosses in the BCCI suggest that and that has made King Khan very angry.
“I am a little disappointed and sad. Maybe next time I will not go for a match,” Shah Rukh said.
Clearly, this outburst rattled the BCCI bosses and they immediately went into damage control mode. But for known BCCI baiters like Kapil Dev this incident was a good opportunity to add fuel to fire.
“Every person is fond of something and if he pursues it then what is wrong in it. Don’t politicians do the same thing,” Kapil Dev said.
Shah Rukh has now been invited for the Delhi Test match but will King Khan melt and show up? Keep an eye out at the VIP stands at the Kotla stadium.
